chupacabra's brain dump

Using Bearblog as a redirect with Leechblock

Since the elections, I've been involved in reading the news, at some point I stopped, but then something happens and I come back to the rabbit hole. My disconnection improved once I left Facebook and Instagram, and even more when I stopped browsing reddit on my phone, but still, I come back to it. Obviously the problem is having a phone. O maybe I am?

To avoid this, through DNS I have some newsites blocked, and I have the DNS itself blocked on my phone, so I can't access it. However, some newsites are not blocked, just so I can read about whats happening with Iran (?)

But it occured to me that I can use Leechblock on my phone to redirect some searches or newssites to beablog instead. Leechblock helped me get through the reddit addiction, since you can block access to the rules themselves, so why not try this?
I created a rule that when my browser sees:

aljazeera.com
apnews.com
duckduckgo.com
reuters.com
~iran
~ukraine
~war

it will redirect me to:

https://bearblog.dev/discover/random-blog/
Bear blog Random Blog

This way I can see some random blogs when I type Iran, or any of these newssites (but it won't block duckduckgo per say, only when I type "Iran", "Ukraine", or "war" into it) instead of going the depression route.

News are important, but constant consumption will get me nowhere good, specially war related. Anyway, my family always tell me about stuff that's happening.

If you want to try this, the other url you can use is:

https://bearblog.dev/discover/random-post/
Bear Blog Random Post

I now have these two bookmarked in my Firefox homepage as well, for easy access.
