Against capitalism

This past week, my mom gave me a sewing machine as a gift. With the help of a Youtube video, I sew my first zipper pouch. It was a fun experience and I'm so proud of doing it, but at the same time having that machine showed me how capitalistic the concept of the sewing machine is.

Before this I've been sewing by hand fixing stuff and I even sew a quilt. I really like sewing but, though using a sewing machine saved me time, it felt like being in a hurry to produce. In a way this gets me out of the buying low effort stuff, but what do I do with that time I save, if its not sewing some more stuff. I still ended up doing some work by hand around the zipper, and I think handsewing gives a better quality result.

I guess the case is not against capitalism, but against consumerism.
